Job summary

Triumph Group in Park City, UT is seeking a Design Engineer 3 focused on additive manufacturing. You will develop standard practices, characterize AM materials, and collaborate across Triumph sites to optimize designs for LPBF builds.

The role requires a mechanical or aerospace background, 2+ years in LPBF/SLM environments, and strong CAD skills. Expect growth opportunities, ITAR-driven compliance, and cross-functional teamwork in aerospace projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or materials science.
• Two+ years of design experience in Laser Powder Bed Fusion/SLM production.
• Experience with gear and powertrain design software preferred.
• Knowledge of machine design elements: housings, gears, bearings, seals, splines, lubricants.
• Proficiency with CAD software.
• Additive manufacturing qualifications from a recognized institution preferred.
• AS13100/AS9100D familiarity preferred.
• GD&T understanding required.
• Strong communication skills and initiative.
• Team player with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing internal standards for additively manufactured parts.
• Develop plans to characterize AM material properties and test AM parts.
• Collaborate with design teams and external partners to optimize AM designs.
• Lead development and implementation of AM processes in Triumph’s design efforts.
• Contribute to designing new products with creativity and foresight.
• Create mechanical drawings for additively manufactured components.
• Perform engineering calculations (stress/strain, dynamics, kinematics, transmission).
• Prepare initial drafts of engineering documentation and reports.
• Coordinate with manufacturing for smooth design-to-manufacture transition.
• Maintain knowledge of aircraft drive systems and AM trends.
