Job summary

Illinois School District U-46 is seeking a Paraeducator for the Multi Abilities Classroom (MAC) to support students with significant academic, communication, and behavioral needs. The role includes assisting with personal care, feeding and toileting, under direct supervision of a certified staff member, and helping maintain a structured, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Para Educator license or required licensing.
• 60 semester hours of college coursework or passing ETS Para Pro exam or two Work Keys exams.
• Bilingual-Spanish/English for multilingual classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Implement instructional activities under MAC teacher guidance using routines and supports.
• Familiarize with IEP goals and behavior supports to ensure consistent implementation.
• Support communication systems, visual schedules, and reinforcement systems aligned with MAC.
• Follow behavioral intervention plans and de-escalation strategies as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with data collection and document information as requested by the teacher.
• Prepare and maintain materials and set up the environment for instruction.
• Supervise students during lunch, recess, transitions, and activities.
• Escort students to electives, therapies and other spaces within the building.
• Assist with loading/unloading buses during assigned hours.
• Provide personal care support as needed, including lifting and toileting.
• Support student independence, communication, self-regulation and engagement throughout the day.
• Provide input on student responses and behaviors to teaching staff.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Be willing to complete CPI and Ukeru certification to support safe behavior strategies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
