Job summary

Illinois School District U-46 seeks a Paraeducator for the Multi Abilities Classroom (MAC) to support students with significant needs. You will assist with instructional activities, behavior and communication supports, and personal care as required, under direct supervision of a certified staff member.

The role involves data collection, collaboration with teachers, and supervision during parts of the day. Basic bilingual capabilities and a 9-month term are noted in the posting.

Qualifications

• Para Educator license required.
• Minimum 60 semester hours of college coursework or passing ETS Para Pro or Work Keys.
• Assignments in multilingual classrooms require Bilingual-Spanish/English.

Responsibilities

• Implement instructional activities under MAC teacher direction using routines and structured practices.
• Familiarize with student IEP goals and supports to aid consistent implementation.
• Support communication systems, visual schedules, and reinforcement systems aligned with MAC expectations.
• Follow behavioral intervention plans and de-escalation procedures as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with data collection (academic, behavioral, social, communication) and document information for the teacher.
• Maintain organized materials and assist with classroom/setup.
• Supervise students during lunch, recess, arrival/departure and community activities.
• Escort students between spaces and to special therapies and classes.
• Assist with loading/unloading of student buses as needed.
• Provide input on student responses, communication attempts and behavior patterns.
• Provide personal care support as required (lifting, transferring, feeding, toileting, hygiene).
• Support student independence and engagement throughout the day.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development; maintain confidentiality.
• Willing to complete CPI and Ukeru training for safe behavior support.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
