Job summary

Swim Angelfish is seeking a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to join our team as a Recreational Therapist – Adaptive Aquatics Coordinator. This role blends direct swim sessions with staff coaching and program development to support swimmers of varying abilities.

Ideal candidates hold a CTRS credential, a bachelor’s or higher in Therapeutic Recreation, and experience with children and individuals with disabilities, including autism or sensory needs.

Qualifications

• Active CTRS credential required.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or related qualifying field.
• Experience with children and individuals with disabilities.
• Experience with autism, developmental disabilities, or sensory-related needs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized adaptive swim and aquatic sessions for children and adults of varying abilities.
• Assess swimmer strengths, challenges, participation barriers, and goals.
• Use recreational therapy and adaptive aquatics strategies to support swimmers with autism, sensory differences, developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, and physical disabilities.
• Serve as a resource for instructors working with complex swimmers.
• Observe, mentor, and coach adaptive swim instructors.
• Help staff problem-solve challenging cases and identify effective teaching strategies.
• Educate and collaborate with parents, caregivers, and members of a client’s care team.
• Assist with staff training, program development, and quality improvement.
• Help develop new adaptive aquatics programming and educational resources.
• Participate in required staff training and monthly meetings with the Aquatic Manager.
