Job summary

Expedia Group Advertising seeks a Software Development Engineer III to join our Advertising Technology team. You’ll build and operate real-time ad delivery systems powering ranking, auctions, and budget enforcement at scale in Seattle.

You’ll work with Product, ML, Data Science, and Platform teams to integrate ML signals into high-throughput backend services, mentor junior engineers, and drive quality with automated tests and observability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS or related field.
• 5+ years backend development experience.
• Experience with data-driven systems or ML-powered features.
• Strong knowledge of Java and Kotlin.
• Experience building and deploying backend APIs (e.g., gRPC) and streaming/batch processing (Flink, Spark) in cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and operational best practices.

Responsibilities

• Optimize bidding, ranking and pacing for ad delivery to surface relevant ads.
• Build and scale systems that support ad serving and ad selection across Expedia Group’s advertising network.
• Apply solid software design principles and high-throughput, low-latency services.
• Collaborate with Product, ML data scientists, and data teams on features like relevance optimization and performance modeling.
• Advocate for high-quality code, automated testing and strong observability practices.
• Lead design discussions, mentor junior engineers, and raise the technical bar.
