Job summary

BayCare is seeking an Acute Speech Therapist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, FL. The role involves evaluating and treating speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice, and swallowing disorders in medically complex patients within an acute care setting.

The ideal candidate holds CCC-SLP, BLS, and a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology, with Doctorate preferred. Responsibilities include collaborating with the care team, documenting progress, and educating patients and families.

Qualifications

• CCC-SLP certification and active BLS.
• Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
• Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice, and swallowing function in medically complex patients.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for communication and swallowing disorders.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists and other providers.
• Document evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
• Provide patient and family education on communication strategies and recovery expectations.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning.
• Oversee CFY students and learners as needed.

Acute Speech Therapist Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, voice, and swallowing function in medically complex patients.

• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address communication and/or swallowing disorders.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational/physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare providers.
• Document evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Provide patient and family education related to communication strategies, feeding precautions, and recovery expectations.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning.
• Perform Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) and/or Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), if credentialed.
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and HIPAA policies.
• Stay current with clinical best practices and continuing education relevant to acute care SLP.
• Responsible for providing the appropriate level of clinical direction for therapists completing their Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), Speech Language Pathology students and volunteers.

Requirements:
