Job summary

UnityPoint Health – Des Moines is seeking a registered nurse for full-time day shifts (7:00am–7:30pm) with every third weekend rotation and on-call duties. Eligible for a $20,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance up to $10,000 for moves over 50 miles.

The Inpatient Dialysis team supports patients with AKI, CKD, and complex conditions across units, collaborating with nephrology, intensivists, and hospitalists to deliver high-quality renal care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Iowa RN license in good standing.
• Minimum 12 months acute RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Assumes plan of care per unit standards for the patient population.
• Delegates tasks to health care team and follows up.
• Conducts admission assessments including history, physical and psychosocial data.
• Develops a mutually agreed plan of care with patient and family.
• Implements the plan of care per standards and procedures.
• Maintains a safe environment and promotes patient safety.
• Collaborates with the care team to achieve outcomes and goals.
• Administers medications and nursing treatments within scope.

The Inpatient Dialysis team at Iowa Methodist Medical Center provides specialized renal replacement therapy to patients across the hospital, including critical care, medical‑surgical, cardiac, and transplant units. Our department plays a vital role in supporting patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and complex comorbidities who require hemodialysis during hospitalization.

Responsibilities

• Assumes primary responsibility for the plan of care for a patient or group of patients, per unit standards and nursing care required for the specified patient population.
• Effectively delegates tasks and responsibilities to other health care team members and assumes responsibility for follow-up and collaboration.
• Performs admission assessment process per specific department standards to include patient history, physical, and psycho-social assessment. Utilizes physical assessment data, diagnostic data (lab, radiology, diagnostic testing), pharmacological information and patient/family perceptions in formulating nursing diagnosis related to focus problem areas and identifying goals of care.
• Assumes responsibility for developing a plan of care that is mutually established with the patient and family. Each patient is treated as an individual, with their identified goals and expectations reviewed each shift to verify priorities.
• Implements the plan of care according to current standards of nursing practice, evidence-based practice, and hospital protocol/procedures.
• Integrates multidisciplinary approach to maintain comfort, support human functions and responses, and maintain an environment conductive to safety and well-being. Implements measures to promote a safe environment.
• Partners with healthcare team to achieve the patient care outcomes and goals of care.
• Administers medications and nursing treatments within scope of practice.

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.

License(s)/Certification(s):

• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa

Experience:

• Minimum of 12 months acute RN experience.
  • All newly licensed RNs or RNs with less than 12 months of acute RN experience and who are interested in this department or any other Acute RN role within UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, are encouraged and required to participate in the RN Residency program.
