Job summary

UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking an Acute Care Speech Language Pathologist Per Diem to join a high-volume acute care team. Responsibilities include diagnostic and rehab services, patient and family education, and supervision of students and fellows.

The selected candidate will ideally work a minimum of 1 weekend day per month with occasional weekday/holiday coverage. Licensure in NC and ASHA-eligible or above is required; acute care experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program.
• Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the NC Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
• One year of relevant experience or completion of a one-year clinical fellowship.
• Clinical experience in acute care is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes results of diagnostic and/or therapeutic testing to establish patient goals and/or modify subsequent treatment programs.
• Selects and applies current and advanced techniques to provide quality and efficient speech/language/swallow rehabilitation services.
• Provides counseling and/or feedback to patients and/or family members regarding patient's care through team meetings and/or direct contact.
• supervises graduate speech/language pathology students and/or clinical fellows and educates health professionals in area of specialty.
• Develops or contributes to innovative programs to enhance patient care. Serves as resource consultant to other clinicians in respective specialty area.
• Maintains valid and reliable records of patient procedures, progress and/or recommendations.
• Provides clinical speech-language pathology services--assessment and planning.
