NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the Hospital at Night Acute Care ANP team. The post is permanent and involves 36‑hour day/night rotation across University Hospital Ayr, Crosshouse, Woodland View and Biggart Hospital.

You will perform comprehensive assessments, initiate investigations, and develop management plans for acutely unwell adults, with post‑registration acute care experience and ongoing education supported.

Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner within our Hospital at Night Department based within NHS Ayrshire and Arran – UHC/UHA/Biggart/WoodlandView. This post is offered on a permanent basis.

36 hrs day/night rotation

UK Driving Licence

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What You Will Do

To ensure that we continue to deliver an exemplary standard of care to our patients, we are looking for experienced registered nurses to join the Hospital at Night Acute Care Advanced Nurse Practitioner team which is currently provided throughout NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

As an Acute Care Advanced Nurse Practitioner, the post holder will integrate into the established Acute Care Advanced Practice team, working across medical and surgical boundaries and be the first responder to acutely unwell adults. You will be responsible for full clinical assessment, initiating investigations, formulating management plans and undertaking appropriate first line interventions.

Applicants should hold a degree level nursing qualification, with current NMC registration and be able to evidence highly developed specialist knowledge, with significant comprehensive post registration experience within the acute care setting, some of which must be at a senior level. A Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Practice, including a nurse independent prescribing qualification is desirable. In the absence of this the successful candidate will be supported to undertake academic study towards the above post graduate qualifications.

Applicants who partially meet the essential criteria will be considered for a trainee Band 7 (AfC Annex 21 applies) and where required, you will be provided with a programme of training during your initial period of employment, specifically around managing the acutely unwell adult, physical health assessment, advanced life support and area specific training.

The Acute Care Advanced Nurse Practitioners rotate through both Acute Hospital @ Night areas at University Hospital Ayr and Crosshouse. In addition you will rotate through both Woodland View/Ayrshire Central Hospital and Biggart Hospital. This rotation allows the development and maintenance of the skill set required for ANP’s in keeping with transforming nursing roles. This post will be rotational post between day and night shift.

The post holder will integrate into an already established Acute Care Advanced Practice team to provide support to the medical teams, supporting the management of patients within this service.

Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required For This Post

Current NMC registration with a degree level qualification in nursing.

We are looking for an experienced nurse who has extensive post registration experience within an acute environment and can demonstrate knowledge of caring for acutely unwell adults.

You will demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, and the commitment to undertake a Pg Dip in advanced practice, if not currently held.

You will also demonstrate experience of developing and delivering innovative and creative solutions to underpin service delivery.
