Job summary

The Hartford is seeking an AD & Associate Actuary to join the Financial Lines Reserving team in a hybrid role based in the Hartford area. You will perform reserve studies, monitor portfolio performance, and collaborate with Claims and Pricing to support reserve decisions and business strategy.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years of P&C actuarial experience, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in Excel with knowledge of SQL/VBA/R/Python a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Near to recent ACAS preferred.
• Minimum 4+ years of Property and Casualty actuarial experience; reserving experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply sound actuarial judgment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analyses into business insights.
• Driven, intellectually curious, resourceful, and creative; able to learn new concepts quickly.
• Proactive and ownership-driven; partners across functions to improve processes and analytics.
• Strong Excel skills; SQL, VBA, R, or Python a plus.

Responsibilities

• Complete reserve studies and advise management on reserve decisions, including insight into key drivers of change.
• Develop and maintain monitoring tools such as actual loss vs expectation and reserving diagnostics.
• Partner with Claims to develop insights and inform reserve decisions.
• Analyze portfolio performance, emerging claim trends, and significant loss activity to inform reserve decisions and business strategy.
• Drive improvements in data quality, portfolio monitoring, and actuarial processes through innovations and controls.
