Job summary

Core Specialty Insurance Holdings, Inc. invites interns to join the Actuarial Reserving team for meaningful, real work and guidance from actuaries as you pursue exams.

The 12-week summer program exposes you to pricing, projections, and reporting while collaborating with senior management. Ideal candidates are actively pursuing actuarial degrees, with progress on basic actuarial principles, CAS prelims in progress, and strong Excel and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field.
• Progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles is required.
• CAS preliminary exams studied; 1–2 passed may apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide Actuarial Pricing support for all lines of business
• Support pricing of new program opportunities
• Develop premium and loss ratio projections with Planning process
• Complete and distribute monthly pricing reports
• Support Insurance Department rate filings as needed
• Develop new rating tools and migrate existing tools to new platforms

As a valued intern on our Actuarial Reserving team, you will be given real meaningful work as well as support and guidance from our actuaries as you continue on your exam path.

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

• Provide Actuarial Pricing support for all lines of business

• Support pricing of new program opportunities

• In conjunction with the annual Planning process, develop premium and loss ratio projections

• Complete and distribute monthly pricing reports

• Support Insurance Department rate filings as needed

• Develop new rating tools as requested and support migration of existing tools to new platforms

Technical Knowledge and Understanding:

• Passed at least one Actuarial Examstrongly preferred

• Basic Excel experience

• Interest in insurance industry

• Knowledge of actuarial exam process

• Strong organization and communication skills

• The ability to learn, understand, and apply technical concepts

• Ownership of tasks

• Works within deadlines with guidance.

• Able to manage time and prioritize with guidance

• Adapts future behaviors based on prior mistakes

Experience:

• Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field

• Demonstrate sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles is required

• Studying for CAS preliminary exams; may have 1-2 passed
