Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Company seeks an actuarial analyst to support pricing, business analysis and product development. You will serve as a technical resource for rating and policy administration systems across assigned lines of business.

The role requires a math or related degree, SQL experience, and actuarial exam progress; knowledge of E&O insurance is a plus. Expect a fast-paced, collaborative environment with exposure to multiple areas of the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mathematics or related field or equivalent experience.
• Good spreadsheet software proficiency.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Proofreading.
• Knowledge of SQL preferred; Python a plus.
• 2–5 years related work experience preferred.
• 2+ passed actuarial exams preferred.
• Experience with E&O insurance a plus.

Responsibilities

• Designs and/or initiates analyses, compiles data and computes statistics for use in statistical rating studies.
• Applies advanced levels of knowledge of mathematics, statistics, principles of finance and business to casualty insurance problems.
• Develops methods of tracking rate history experience and other data to study rate level indications.
• Initiates analyses and proposes changes in rate levels and rating structures based on analyses.
• Prepare and present quarterly results to senior management.
• Revises company rate manual pages and cost components for statistical studies.
• Compiles exhibits, explanations and statistical analyses for rate filings and manual pages.
• Oversees actuarial filing submissions and answers inquiries from Insurance Departments.
• Researches and communicates state law requirements affecting coverages.
