Position Summary: The Lifestyle Director is responsible for enhancing the lives of our residents by planning and coordinating a lifestyle action activity program that responds to each resident’s lifestyle choice and unique identity. This role is vital to resident and staff satisfaction through promoting the highest principles and standards a senior living community has to offer. The incumbent in this role will demonstrate empathy and responsiveness to the needs of our residents and offer hope through sophisticated, up-to-date quality of life programs designed to inspire the mind, body and spirit.

- Plan and implement activities in the following categories: physical (exercise), social, recreational, intellectual/educational, creative, entertainment, religious, service, and special requests of the residents.
- Develop and conduct/lead activities according to residents’ lifestyle choices.
- Develop a Monthly Activity Calendar that incorporates activities seven days per week and includes evening and weekend activities.
- Organize and facilitate a committee of residents and community members to work on issues of planning of activities. Follow the mission “Lifestyle Activities - A Reflection of Resident Choice”.
- Interface with residents on a daily basis regarding problems or questions. Take proactive steps to resolve issues.
- Assist in the hiring and development of Lifestyle team members, including supervising and motivating the team to achieve operational goals of management and ownership.
- Invite and/or remind residents to participate in planned activities.
- Promote activities in a way that piques residents’ interests.
- Chaperone activities outside the community.
- Complete the activity assessment for each resident within one week after move in and update it annually.
- Train, support and instruct other team members to conduct activities.
- Publish monthly community newsletter and distribute to residents. Other written communication may be produced to educate residents and families.
- Maintain a schedule for the company vehicle, including residents’ medical appointments.
- Utilize expert resources in the community and local area.
- Arrange transportation for activity outings and regularly scheduled group trips.
- Drive the company vehicle for resident activities and appointments.
- Work with the nursing department to help update service plans which meet the residents’ needs.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement decoration of the community for special events, seasons and holidays.
- Identify and requisition needed supplies for planned activities.
- Coordinate food needs for scheduled activities with the kitchen.
- Assist with development of activity budget and operate within budget guidelines.
- Assist in planning and implementing marketing events that promote the community to potential residents.
- Market the community to the local area by developing professional contacts in the area and inviting area organizations into the community on a regular basis.
- Promote cooperative working relationships within and between departments and other service levels on campus.
- Provide clearly defined orientation procedure for residents.
- Stay abreast of active aging and generational trends in order to continuously enhance vibrant living initiatives. Share relevant information with team members to increase awareness and support professional development.
- Ensure that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
- Report on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
- Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to resident, community operations and personnel.
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience and Other Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Gerontology or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- 2+ years progressive experience in a senior living setting or similar field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Promote teamwork in providing services to residents.
- Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have well-developed organizational skills.
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with team members, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public.
- Demonstrated leadership experience to include team member development
- Ability to travel occasionally for meetings
Preferred Qualifications
- State and Federal regulations pertaining to Assisted Living
- Intermediate or advanced knowledge of or willingness and ability to learn the computer programs used in this community
- Proficiency with computer applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite, and a demonstrated ability to embrace and master new applications
