Description
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct resident-centered activities for the facility.
- Stay informed about current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards.
- Maintain effective communication with employees at all levels, residents, families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to meet the needs and interests of residents, the community, and the facility.
- Participate in community planning related to the facility's interests and resident needs.
- Assist in facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies and help develop correction plans for any deficiencies noted.
- Participate in regular meetings such as staff, department, quality improvement, safety, marketing, and resident/family councils.
- Support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in developing action plans to address quality deficiencies.
- Contribute to discharge planning, activity care plans, and resident assessments.
- Arrange transportation for residents for outings, appointments, or discharges.
- Develop a monthly activity schedule including outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents.
- Encourage residents to participate in hobbies, crafts, and reading activities, providing materials like Braille or audiobooks as needed.
- Ensure that all activity notes are detailed, informative, and reflect the resident's response to services.
- Assist in supervising and managing activity staff.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience in a long-term care facility preferred.
- Ability to read and understand technical procedures, policies, and respond effectively to questions.
- Mathematical skills to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.
- Activity Director certification required.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
The role requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, and hearing, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The work environment is typically low to moderate noise, with accommodations available for disabilities.
