Canopy Ridge Assisted Living is seeking an Activities Director to plan, coordinate, and lead engaging programs for residents in our assisted living community. You will craft a calendar that balances exercise, crafts, music, and social events while respecting individual abilities and preferences.

We value creativity, compassion, organization, and teamwork. You will work with the Executive Director and care teams to ensure activities enhance quality of life and resident well-being.

ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR POSITION AVAILABLE

Position: Activities Director
Department: Activities / Life Enrichment
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: Assisted Living Community

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and dependable Activities Director to lead and coordinate engaging activities and programs for our residents.

The Activities Director is responsible for creating a welcoming environment where residents have opportunities for socialization, recreation, creativity, physical activity, and meaningful engagement. The ideal candidate enjoys working with seniors, is organized and energetic, and understands that activities should be designed around the individual interests, abilities, and needs of our residents.

PRIMARY EXPECTATIONS
1. Develop and Maintain an Activity Calendar
  • Create a monthly activity calendar that provides a variety of meaningful activities.

  • Offer activities throughout the day and during appropriate evenings or weekends when needed.

  • Ensure activities are appropriate for residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities.

  • Incorporate resident preferences, suggestions, birthdays, holidays, and special events.

2. Resident Engagement
  • Encourage residents to participate without making anyone feel pressured.

  • Get to know residents and learn about their hobbies, interests, careers, families, and past experiences.

  • Provide one-on-one engagement for residents who may not participate in group activities.

  • Encourage socialization and help residents maintain a sense of purpose and community.

3. Variety of Activities

Activities should include a balance of:

  • Exercise and movement

  • Games and trivia

  • Bingo and card games

  • Arts and crafts

  • Music and entertainment

  • Dancing

  • Religious/spiritual opportunities as appropriate

  • Educational programs

  • Cooking and baking activities

  • Gardening

  • Movies

  • Outings and community trips

  • Holiday celebrations

  • Birthday celebrations

  • Resident socials

  • Intergenerational activities

  • Reminiscing and life-story activities

  • Cognitive stimulation

  • Sensory activities

  • Pet/animal visits when appropriate

4. Special Events

The Activities Director is expected to plan and coordinate special events such as:

  • Holiday celebrations

  • Family events

  • Resident birthday celebrations

  • Themed parties

  • Resident appreciation events

  • Staff/resident events

  • Entertainment

  • Community outings

  • Seasonal events

  • Assisted Living Week activities

  • Other community-wide celebrations

5. Participation & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate activity attendance records.

  • Document resident participation as required.

  • Monitor resident interests and participation.

  • Communicate changes in resident needs or abilities to the appropriate members of the care team.

  • Maintain required activity documentation and records.

6. Work With Other Departments

The Activities Director is expected to work as part of the entire community team and communicate effectively with:

  • Executive Director

  • Nursing

  • Resident Care

  • Dining Services

  • Housekeeping

  • Maintenance

  • Administrative staff

  • Families and responsible parties

  • Outside entertainers and vendors

Activities should be coordinated with other departments to ensure resident safety and minimize conflicts with meals, medications, appointments, and care needs.

The Activities Director is expected to:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity area.

  • Demonstrate flexibility when schedules or resident needs change.

  • Be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, or special events when needed.

IMPORTANT EXPECTATION

The Activities Director should not simply create a calendar and expect residents to attend. The expectation is to actively engage residents, build relationships, encourage participation, and create meaningful experiences.
