Job summary

Emporia Rehabilitation And Healthcare Center in Emporia, VA is seeking an experienced Activities Director to lead the facility's Activity Department, planning and directing programs that meet residents' physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs. The role requires overseeing staff, developing department policy, managing budget, documenting resident participation, and collaborating in care planning.

ADC certification and LTC experience are preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• ADC certification required or eligible through the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.
• Experience as an Activity Director in a long-term care setting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Activity Department operations, supervise staff, develop policies, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Develop new activity programs to meet evolving trends and standards.
• Manage the department within budgetary guidelines and monitor expenditures.
• Observe and document Resident attendance, participation, and behavior changes.
• Participate in care planning meetings, providing observations of Residents’ needs and preferences.
• Greet new Residents on arrival and assist with integration into the facility.
• Perform administrative tasks such as charting and care planning; complete MDS portions accurately and on time.
• Assist with recruitment and selection of Activity staff.

Education

Summary/Objective

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Director of Activities is responsible for the planning, development and overall operation of the Activities Department which implements and directs activity programs that meet the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of Residents.

Essential Functions

1. 1. Responsible for the overall operations of the facility’s Activity Department which includes supervision of staff, development and implementation of departmental policy and procedures, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, local regulations.
2. 2. Regularly develops new programs to meet new trends and industry standards.
3. 3. Responsible for operating the Activities department within budgetary guidelines and limitations.
4. 4. Observe and report Resident’s attendance, participation, and behavior changes by documenting and charting.
5. 5. Participates in the care planning process by attending care plan meetings, providing specific information and observations of the Resident’s needs, preferences and report any behavioral changes.
6. 6. Meet and great all new Residents and residents upon arrival to the facility.
7. 8. Performs administrative tasks such as charting, care planning, reports and etc. Completes assigned MDS portions accurately and on time.
8. 9. Assists with the recruitment and selection of Activity staff.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

• Highschool Diploma/Equivalent
• Be certified or eligible for certification as an activity director certified (ADC) by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals
• Activity Director Experience in a Long Term Care Setting
