Base pay range
$50,000.00/yr - $55,000.00/yr
Job Summary
Alden Village serves individuals with intellectual disabilities. The Activity Director is responsible for the Activities Department, supporting the program’s mission, philosophy, policies, procedures, and regulations. The role aims to achieve and maintain the highest quality of life for residents, considering psychosocial, medical, and activity needs and preferences.
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent.
- At least three years of experience in group and individual activity programming.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Experience and skills in marketing the Activity Program to the community and professionals.
- Knowledgeable in activity programming and effective communication of disease processes.
- Preferred qualifications include an associate or bachelor’s degree, or education in Recreational Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Education, Social Services, or equivalent.
- If lacking specific certifications (CTRS, OTR/L, LSW, LCSW), must complete a 36-hour Basic Activity course within 90 days of employment and register within 180 days.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Sincere desire to work with diverse populations requiring long-term or short-term care.
- Ability to apply knowledge effectively and guide staff in therapeutic approaches.
- Independent decision-making skills and qualities of empathy, compassion, enthusiasm, and humor.
- Flexibility regarding work hours.
- Ability to manage emotional needs of self and staff.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to push, pull, or carry 50 pounds.
- Mobility throughout the workday.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with residents, families, and staff.
- Good health.
- Ability to relate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset individuals.
- May need to lift equipment, supplies, or move furniture.
- Exposure to infectious waste and diseases, including HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B.
Essential Functions
- Establish and monitor program goals through a team approach.
- Develop and maintain a therapeutic, person-centered activity program to enhance residents’ quality of life.
- Maintain policies, procedures, and compliance with regulations.
- Conduct assessments and care planning initiatives, including social, medical, cognitive, and behavioral needs.
- Complete all documentation.
- Address communication needs of residents, including language services and communication boards.
- Develop and conduct resident activity orientation programs.
- Understand each resident’s background, culture, and needs to create appropriate activity plans.
- Design activities based on residents’ preferences and rights.
- Implement 1:1 programs as needed and assess ongoing suitability.
- Develop and maintain volunteer programs involving families and residents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
