Job description

The Park Operations and Maintenance Division is currently seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to join their team as an Activities Program Specialist (Park Manager Trainee). This exciting opportunity offers a permanent, full-time position where you will be trained to provide direct support to various parks, regional offices, and other sections and divisions within the Bureau. As an Activities Program Specialist, you will have the chance to showcase your exceptional organizational skills as you learn to oversee, develop, and implement state park program objectives, priorities, guidelines, and standards. In this role, you will learn to provide bureau-wide guidance on the activity agreement program, commercial agreement program, and unmanned aerial systems and filming agreements that support activities permitted on bureau lands. You will work with division and park managers to develop activity plans for each administrative unit that provide for staffing and resource prescriptions as it pertains to activities. This includes learning how to develop procedures and standards, finalize agreements, and provide guidance and training on responsibilities as it pertains to the activity agreement types.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of paraprofessional or technical experience providing administrative, maintenance, visitor, safety, or environmental education services in a public park or recreation area; or
  • Two years of paraprofessional or technical experience providing administrative, maintenance, visitor, safety, or environmental education services in a public park or recreation area; and an associate degree in parks and recreation, forestry, engineering, natural sciences, landscape architecture, or a closely related field; or
  • A bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, forestry, engineering, natural sciences, landscape architecture, or a closely related field;or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • This position requires passing psychological testing (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Failure to pass this test is a basis for removal from the position.
  • This position requires passing a Pennsylvania State Police and FBI criminal background checks. A record of conviction of a criminal offense for which more than one year in prison can be imposed as punishment is a basis for removal from the position.
  • This position requires obtaining a valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent. Training will be provided by the department.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
