Job summary

Bermuda Village in Bermuda Village Independent Living is seeking an enthusiastic Life Enrichment Specialist to plan, organize, and facilitate engaging social, recreational, educational, spiritual, and wellness programs for independent living residents.

The role requires strong organization, communication, and a passion for enriching seniors’ lives, with opportunities for teamwork and collaboration across departments. Base pay is hourly, with full-time, non-exempt status.

Activities Coordinator – Independent Living

Department: Resident Services

Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and compassionate Life Enrichment Specialist to join our Resident Services team. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating engaging social, recreational, educational, spiritual, and wellness programs that support an active and fulfilling lifestyle for our independent living residents.


The ideal candidate enjoys working with older adults, has strong organizational and communication skills, and can create meaningful opportunities for residents with a wide range of interests, personalities, and abilities.


Key Responsibilities


  • Help develop and maintain a varied seven-day activity schedule that accommodates different interests and ability levels.

  • Plan and facilitate meaningful programs that support residents’ physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, vocational, and cognitive well-being.

  • Create monthly newsletters for independent living residents.

  • Plan community outings that encourage residents to remain connected and involved in the surrounding community.

  • Coordinate visits and programs with entertainers, schools, churches, pet-therapy organizations, community groups, and other outside partners.

  • Welcome new residents and their families and help them become familiar and connected with the community.

  • Decorate common areas for holidays, special events, and seasonal celebrations.

  • Purchase, organize, and maintain activity supplies while responsibly managing the assigned budget.

  • Recruit, coordinate, and train volunteers who support life-enrichment programs.

  • Educate and encourage team members to recognize opportunities for meaningful resident engagement.

  • Assist with coordinating family support-group meetings.

  • Attend management and departmental meetings as required.

  • Monitor resident satisfaction and work with the community team to develop plans for continuous improvement.

  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, team members, vendors, volunteers, and community partners.

  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff, nursing personnel, department supervisors, and other community team members.

  • Represent the community in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.

  • Answer telephone calls according to company and community standards when requested.

  • Assist in other positions or departments temporarily when necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Qualifications


  • Experience planning, organizing, and facilitating programs or events for older adults with varying interests and ability levels.

  • Exceptional organizational, time-management, and planning skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Creativity, enthusiasm, flexibility, and the ability to encourage resident participation.

  • Compassion for and a genuine desire to work with older adults.

  • Ability to work responsibly both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to establish positive relationships with residents, families, volunteers, vendors, and team members.

  • Ability to respond professionally and calmly during interruptions or challenging interactions.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Activity-related certification when required by applicable state regulations.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Ability to meet all applicable health and safety requirements.

  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Two or more years of direct programming or life-enrichment experience with older adults.

  • Associate degree in recreation therapy, health education, or a related field.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Experience creating newsletters, calendars, flyers, or other resident communications.

  • Experience coordinating volunteers, entertainers, vendors, and community partnerships.


Schedule and Work Environment


  • Full-time schedule with flexibility to work beyond standard business hours when programs, outings, special events, or community needs require it.

  • Additional or overtime hours may be available or required based on community needs.

  • Employees may be asked to assist temporarily in other positions when necessary.

  • Availability may be required during emergencies, severe weather, evacuations, or other unexpected community situations.

  • This is a highly interactive position involving frequent contact with residents, families, visitors, volunteers, vendors, and team members.

  • The work environment may include frequent interruptions, varying temperatures and lighting, elevated noise levels, odors, cleaning products, and potential exposure to communicable illnesses.


Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:



  • Sit, stand, and walk for short or extended periods.

  • Frequently bend, reach, stoop, squat, push, and pull.

  • Repeatedly use the hands, fingers, wrists, and arms.

  • Set up and break down activity spaces, decorations, equipment, and supplies.

  • Push, pull, and lift at least 25 pounds.

  • Perform the essential responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
