Server – Part-Time
Department: Dining Services
Employment Type: Part-Time, Hourly/Non-Exempt
Schedule: Evening shifts from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., including some weekends
Position Summary
We are seeking a friendly, dependable, and service-oriented Server to join our Dining Services team. In this role, you will help create an enjoyable dining experience for our residents by taking orders, serving meals, responding to individual needs, and maintaining a clean and welcoming dining environment.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with older adults, communicates professionally, and works well both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare dining areas for service at least 30 minutes before opening and complete all closing and breakdown duties.
- Ensure silverware, glassware, dishes, and other dining supplies are clean, spot-free, chip-free, and properly maintained.
- Greet residents and guests warmly and provide attentive, courteous service.
- Take accurate orders and serve meals in a timely and professional manner.
- Learn and maintain knowledge of menus, daily specials, wine selections, food ingredients, preparation methods, allergies, and dietary needs.
- Maintain an active presence in the dining room and respond promptly to residents’ needs.
- Proactively address concerns and involve a manager when appropriate.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary dining area and back-of-house workstation.
- Clear and scrape dishes and organize plates, glassware, and other items properly in the dishwashing area.
- Follow all sanitation, food-safety, infection-control, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Complete all assigned opening, closing, cleaning, and shift checklists.
- Follow the assigned schedule and communicate scheduling concerns to management promptly.
- Communicate professionally with residents, families, visitors, vendors, supervisors, and team members.
- Protect residents’ rights, privacy, safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
- Answer telephone calls according to community standards when requested.
- Assist in other positions or departments temporarily when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Compassion for and a genuine desire to work with older adults.
- Ability to provide courteous and professional service in a resident-centered environment.
- Strong communication, teamwork, organization, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to remain patient and professional when assisting individuals who may be ill, disabled, emotionally upset, or challenging.
- Ability to follow menus, dietary instructions, sanitation requirements, and safety procedures.
- Dependable attendance and the ability to report to work in the required uniform.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to meet all applicable health and safety requirements.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous restaurant, serving, hospitality, senior-living, or customer-service experience.
Schedule and Work Environment
- Part-time schedule with the possibility of additional or overtime hours based on community needs.
- Availability may be required during emergencies, severe weather, evacuations, or other unexpected community situations.
- Work is performed in dining, kitchen, and residential community environments.
- The position may involve frequent interaction with residents, families, visitors, and team members.
- Employees may encounter varying temperatures, bright or low lighting, elevated noise levels, food and cleaning-product odors, hazardous chemicals, and potential exposure to communicable illnesses.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, stoop, squat, push, and pull.
- Repeatedly use the hands, fingers, wrists, and arms.
- Carry trays and dining supplies safely.
- Push, pull, and lift at least 25 pounds.
- Perform the essential responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
