Job description

As an Activities Assistant, your primary responsibility is to provide a robust activity program to residents in our retirement community. You will work closely with the Activity Director to deliver activities in both assisted living and memory care settings. These activities will be designed with a therapeutic approach to address the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual needs of each resident. Occasionally, you will be responsible for driving residents to and from appointments and outings.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  1. Ensuring scheduled activities occur as posted and in a timely manner.
  2. Engaging residents according to their ability, cognition, and desire, and involving other staff in activities.
  3. Gathering and escorting residents to and from activity programs.
  4. Documenting resident participation, reactions, and behavioral concerns via progress notes and weekly family emails.
  5. Reporting changes in resident participation or physical, cognitive, or emotional fluctuations to the appropriate director.
  6. Providing daily encouragement for residents to participate in activities through verbal invitations, reminders, and escorts.
  7. Assisting residents who need additional guidance during activities.
  8. Keeping activity areas organized, neat, clean, and accessible.
  9. Assisting residents with loading and unloading transportation vehicles.
  10. Delivering mail and packages to residents as needed.
  11. Promoting teamwork within and across departments.
  12. Collaborating with care staff to assist with residents' daily activities and needs.
  13. Communicating professionally and effectively with residents, families, and co-workers.
Requirements:
  1. Qualifications and experience demonstrating eagerness to learn and ability to work as part of a strong team.
  2. Passing background checks and motor vehicle record checks.
  3. Passing routine TB tests.
  4. Ability to operate general office equipment and computer systems.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively and work productively within an interdisciplinary team.
  6. Familiarity with and willingness to work with the elderly, including those with dementia.
