Job summary

Lutheran Haven in Oviedo, FL is seeking a compassionate Activities Assistant to plan and lead recreational, social, and spiritual programs for residents. You will coordinate group and individual activities, collaborate with care teams, and help create a warm, respectful environment that honors each resident’s dignity.

The role requires a High School diploma, caregiving inclination, and readiness to work varied shifts, with overtime and weekends as needed, while supporting residents’ well-being

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year in a long-term care facility preferred but not required.
• CNA and/or CPR certification preferred.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Willing to work overtime, weekends, and other positions when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Actively supports Lutheran Haven’s Mission and Ministry.
• Assist in implementing, organizing, and planning activity programs.
• Lead physical exercise/stimulation times with residents.
• Observe, record, and report resident attendance, mood, behavior, and degree of involvement.
• Encourage resident participation and respect resident rights.
• Deliver and read mail to residents as needed.
• Maintains Activity areas and supplies; transports residents to events within the facility.

Job Summary:

Lutheran Haven is seeking a caring and creative Activities Assistant to in provide group and individual activities for Nursing Home residents. As the Activities Assistant, you will assist in the organizing, planning, and implementation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual programs in accordance with the residents’ assessments and care plans. Fostering self-respect and a feeling of worth in each resident by providing consistent understanding and kindness in their care is a key responsibility of the Activities Assistant.

Job Duties:

• Actively supports Lutheran Haven’s Mission and Ministry.
• Assist in implementing, organizing, and planning activity programs.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted American traditional holidays and celebrations that will be included in year-round activities.
• Decorate common areas based on appropriate events and celebrations.
• Maintain bulletin boards and monthly calendar displays.
• Lead physical exercise/stimulation times for residents showing good judgment in the use of audio and visual stimulating accompaniment.
• Observe, record, and report resident attendance, mood, behavior, and degree of involvement so that activities and resident progress may be evaluated.
• Encourage resident participation.
• Consistently demonstrate respect for authority and resident’s rights.
• Deliver and read mail to residents as needed.
• Maintain Activity areas in a clean and orderly manner as well as Activity supplies.
• Transport residents to events within the facility in a safe manner following facility guidelines.
• Attends mandatory in-services. Obtains the state required in-services per year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a long-term care facility in a similar capacity is preferred but not required.
• CNA and/or CPR certification preferred
• Maintain valid driver’s license.
• Willing to work overtime, on weekends, and in other positions when necessary.
• May be required to work during crisis situations such as hurricanes, floods, etc.
