General Purpose
Plan, organize, and direct a program of activities that provide entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and expression, fulfilling residents' psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Assist individuals with physical, emotional, or cognitive impairments to explore appropriate leisure pursuits.
Essential Job Functions
This facility values teamwork and resident comfort. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Activity Coordinator in developing, organizing, and implementing activity programs tailored to residents' needs and within budget.
- Initiate and promote activities inside and outside the facility, ensuring residents' safety and well-being.
- Coordinate assistance for residents during activities and events.
- Create an inclusive activity calendar catering to diverse interests and abilities.
- Maintain scheduling and documentation standards per policies and regulations.
- Engage community groups and organizations in planning activities.
- Organize and oversee fundraising events for the Activity Department.
- Keep detailed records of participation and progress related to residents' care plans.
- Contribute to resident care planning by assessing activity needs.
- Develop and distribute monthly activity calendars and maintain visual displays.
- Maintain a scrapbook of facility activities and events.
- Develop and support a volunteer program; train volunteers and recognize their contributions.
- Train volunteers and students in recreational and therapeutic techniques.
- Prepare progress notes for medical staff regarding residents' reactions and progress.
- Keep all activity-related records compliant with regulations.
- Support residents' involvement in Resident Council meetings, documenting and addressing concerns.
- Participate in ongoing educational programs.
- Be familiar with safety and emergency procedures and maintain confidentiality and resident rights.
- Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and theft of personal property.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid STNA certificate
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in a resident activities program preferred
- Willingness to complete a state-approved training course within six months
- Excellent communication and creativity skills
- Ability to work with individuals with disabilities
- Knowledge of activity department functions and regulatory requirements
- High energy, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with volunteer programs and organizational skills
- Genuine interest in elderly and disabled care
- Compliance with Resident Rights and facility policies
- Physical ability to perform job tasks
