Job description

Activities Assistant (Healthcare)

1. Participate in planning and conducting individual, small, and large group activities.
2. Assist in facilitating communication between employees, residents, families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to meet residents' and community needs.
3. Participate in community planning related to the facility's interests and residents' needs.
4. Assist in developing monthly activity calendars and maintaining attendance records.
5. Support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in developing and implementing corrective plans for quality deficiencies as directed by the Activities Director.
6. Participate in discharge planning and develop and implement activity care plans and resident assessments.
7. Assist in arranging transportation for residents, including outings, appointments, and discharges.
8. Develop a monthly activity schedule including outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents.
9. Encourage residents to participate in self-initiated activities such as hobbies, crafts, and reading, providing materials like Braille or audiobooks as needed.
10. Assist with documentation, including quarterly progress notes as assigned by the Activities Director.
11. Maintain the cleanliness, order, and security of the Activity Department.

Supervisory Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Preferably at least one year of experience in a long-term care facility.

1. Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures, policies, and manuals.
2. Effective communication skills for presenting information and responding to questions.
3. Basic mathematical skills involving fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Physical Demands

Requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Visual acuity for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
