Activities Assistant

The primary purpose of this position is to provide recreational activities for residents by assisting in planning, conducting, evaluation, and participating in one-on-one and group activity programs. The Activities Aide also ensures a safe environment for the residents at all times.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Help residents maintain their highest level of functioning by presenting appropriate activity programs according to residents' physical capacity, cognitive ability, and interest.
2. Motivate residents to take an interest in their life and community by investigating alternative methods of activities, hobbies, and community interests.
3. Prepare recreational therapy (dementia group) as assigned weekly.
4. Deliver mail, flowers, and other items to residents in a timely manner and read mail to residents upon request.
5. Prepare for activity programs by ensuring all supplies are available and rooms are ready.
6. Encourage residents to participate by announcing activities 30 minutes before they start.
7. Assist in transporting residents to activity programs.
8. Conduct resident shopping as requested.
9. Accompany residents outside the facility to participate in community events.
10. Assist residents in craft projects and activities.
11. Implement activity procedures under the direction of the Activity Director, including creating decorations, setting up equipment, crafting, escorting residents, and awarding prizes.
12. Assist in scheduling appointments, movies, parties, and games/activities for residents.
13. Supervise activities as necessary.
14. Maintain competency and be tested to ensure competence, subject to educational needs.
15. Ensure safety and proper care of residents during transport and activities.
16. Document resident participation and evaluation properly.
17. Follow proper procedures during activities like ceramics, crafts, needlework, and games.
18. Perform other duties as required.
