Active Directory Administrator / Technical Specialist

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina (Hybrid)
Contract: 12+ months, full time
Pay Rate: $55 per hour

Position Overview

The State of North Carolina is seeking an experienced Active Directory Administrator / Technical Specialist to support its Accounts and Access Management team. This position is responsible for advanced account administration, access troubleshooting, incident resolution, and the protection of enterprise systems and data.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience administering Microsoft Active Directory in a large, multisite, multidomain environment and can independently resolve complex access, security, and production-support issues. The role requires excellent technical judgment, clear documentation, and strong communication with end users, business partners, and IT teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, modify, and maintain user and system accounts for new and existing employees.
• Troubleshoot data, application, and account-access issues and update Active Directory properties as needed.
• Evaluate IT incidents, service requests, and business impact to determine appropriate priority and resolution.
• Record, manage, and resolve incidents and requests in ServiceNow, including complete resolution documentation.
• Perform advanced system analysis and troubleshooting for highly visible production issues.
• Apply enterprise security requirements and protect systems and data from unauthorized access, alteration, destruction, or misuse.
• Support applicable DOT, ITS, and IT Security Office policies and standards.
• Provide advanced technical support and guidance across a broad range of technologies.
• Prepare clear technical documentation and weekly status reports for management.
• Consult with clients and other IT professionals to develop effective, sustainable solutions.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced experience with account and access management in an enterprise environment.
• Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Active Directory 2008/2012 in a multisite, multidomain organization.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise security controls, access management, and data-protection practices.
• Ability to combine knowledge across multiple technologies to resolve moderately to highly complex problems.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving critical or highly visible production incidents using a methodical approach.
• Experience working with ServiceNow or a comparable IT service-management platform.
• Ability to assess client needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
• Excellent customer service, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, organize assignments, manage a work schedule, and monitor progress.
• Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and a sense of urgency when resolving operational issues.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Contractors are currently working remotely but may be required to report onsite occasionally for training or other business needs. The selected candidate must:

• Currently reside in North Carolina.
• Report onsite on the first day to collect equipment.
• Be available for occasional onsite work in Raleigh when required.
