Job summary

HRCSB in Harrisonburg, VA seeks a Peer Recovery Specialist to support individuals with serious mental illness and substance use disorders in the community, helping them access services and build independent living skills. You will collaborate with the ACT team, provide goal-directed interventions, and coach recovery behaviors to promote safety and well-being.

This position requires a current driver’s license, First Aid/CPR, and a willingness to work flexible hours in diverse community settings;

Qualifications

• Lived experience with mental illness and/or substance use disorder.
• Understanding of the recovery model in mental health and SUD.
• Familiarity with record keeping and HIPAA requirements.
• Peer Certification or equivalent training within 9 months of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development and maintenance of ACT team services.
• Collaborate with ACT team to provide mental health and supportive services.
• Participate in daily ACT meetings to discuss client goals and needs.
• Model and coach recovery behaviors for caseload.
• Support clients in accessing employment, education, and housing resources.
• Maintain client records and documentation.
• Coordinate crisis linkage and refer to appropriate services.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
