Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration, Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia seeks an Associate Chief of Staff for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine to lead the service and ensure high-quality diagnostic pathology and laboratory services.

You will oversee operations, budget, policy development, staff supervision, and research collaboration, with duties spanning clinical service, QA, education, and interdepartmental coordination.

Qualifications

• MD or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in the US or territory.
• Residency training approved by VA and eligible for board certification.
• Board certification in Anatomic Pathology and/or Clinical Pathology preferred.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Minimum of 5 years post-residency experience in pathology with leadership roles.
• Experience in academic medicine and teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service and ensure high-quality services.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate policies for the service.
• Oversee budget planning and financial performance.
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff; foster collaboration.
• Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, VA policies and regulatory requirements.
• Represent the department in executive and administrative meetings.
• Provide diagnostic services across surgical pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, and clinical laboratories.
• Collaborate with Research Service to support VA research activities.
• Promote teamwork and shared goals across the organization.
