Job summary

The State of Indiana seeks an Account Adjustments and Disbursements Specialist in Indianapolis to ensure accuracy and compliance of financial transactions within assigned accounts. You will correct payment errors, prepare financial reports, and apply state and federal guidelines across county partnerships and internal agency units.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in accounting, finance, or business preferred.
• Experience in financial operations, accounting, or account reconciliation.
• Strong working knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and ledger management.
• Ability to interpret court orders, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
• Proficiency with financial systems, spreadsheets, and database applications.
• Ability to deliver high-quality work.
• Critical thinking skills.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work.
• Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations.

Responsibilities

• Correct payment errors and adjust accounts with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Follow Federal and State regulations in applying taxes to accounts to ensure full compliance.
• Review, analyze, and interpret financial reports for county partners and internal units.
• Manage a high volume of account adjustment requests and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Adjust payments returned due to closed accounts, bad addresses, or lost warrants.
• Recommend procedural or policy changes to supervisors to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Place and release holds and manage opening/closing of accounts as needed.
• Adjust account balances to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Read, interpret, and comply with court orders related to payment adjustments.
• Reconcile accounts and subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger.
• Prepare accounting and financial reports from maintained accounts.
• Prepare, correct, and adjust entries prior to closing accounts.
• Review accounts to ensure funds exist before encumbrances are created; notify if discrepancies arise.
