Job summary

Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS invites applications for a full-time Accounting Clerk in the Business Office to support student payments and deposits. The role focuses on processing payments, reconciling deposits, and issuing refunds while maintaining accurate records and coordinating with campus staff.

Qualifications include 6 months to 2 years of related experience and a two-year college degree or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

• Receive payments from various sources, prepare deposit slips for the bank, and balance deposits with cashier audits.
• Responsible for student payments/billing and for sending out monthly student bills on current and past due balances.
• Handle refunds on student accounts and maintain accurate financial records in the cashier system.
• Manage deposits for fundraisers, student activities, dorm deposits/refunds, and other college funds, updating charges as needed.
• Oversee collections (CSR) for student accounts on a yearly basis.
• Collaborate with Great Western Dining and dorm management on move-ins/outs and related charges.

Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.

Responsibilities

Position receives, reconciles, and prepares deposits for money received; maintains financial data and assists in miscellaneous business office and bookkeeping tasks.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for student payments/billing.
• Receive payments from various sources, prepare deposit slips for the bank, and balance those deposits with bookkeeping system’s cashier audits.
• Responsible for all refunds on student accounts.
• Responsible for sending out monthly student bills on current and past due balances, making sure that the charges are correct.
• Responsible for incoming money for fundraiser, return cash for student activities, reserve seating for basketball games, income for all monies related to games at the Greenhouse, dues for student organizations, and any other funds coming into the college for different classes or functions.
• Responsible for student dorm deposits/refunds and keeping track with Great Western Dining and dorm manager on new students moving in or current students moving out, this is a daily routine since we have to add and adjust charges on these students as they make changes.
• Responsible in turning students to collection (CSR) annually and throughout the year.

Qualifications

Six months to two years of similar or related experience.

(1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at abusiness or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house trainingor apprenticeship program.
