Job summary

Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS is seeking a Maintenance Technician responsible for service maintenance, diagnosis and light repairs on fleet and non-fleet vehicles, carts, and heavy equipment, plus campus mail delivery and supply movement.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, at least six months of janitorial or related experience, and a valid driver’s license. The position is full-time with benefits and growth opportunities on a rural campus.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning and prepares for vehicle travel departure schedules.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to vehicles such as oil changes, tires air pressure checks, tire replacements, check and refill fluids, test drives, brake checks, lights checks and repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to golf carts, mowers, vacuums, buffers, and other light equipment as needed.
• General maintenance duties include moving furniture, setting up for events, building checks during holidays when buildings are unoccupied, and on-call duty; perform routine preventative maintenance (greasing equipment, oiling motors, changing belts, changing air filters, changing light bulbs, etc.).
• Manage, track, and maintain fleet and non-fleet usage and maintenance hours logs.
• Delivers campus mail/supplies within one business day.
• Inspects and exercises normal protective/maintenance care of equipment and materials.
• Maintains confidentiality of incoming and outgoing mail; possesses honesty and integrity; loyal to coworkers and college.

Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.

Responsibilities

Perform service maintenance, diagnosis, and light repairs on fleet and non-fleet cars, trailers, golf carts, and mowers, custodian and other heavy equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded, and customer focused manner. Perform cleaning of scheduled college travel cars. Position is also responsible for providing an effective, timely, and economical system of moving campus mail between the various offices and buildings. Duties include delivering and picking up mail to/from the post office, maintaining paper supply inventory, and delivery of materials and supplies. Position may also assist others in the department during slow times of direct duties or high-volume times for the department.

Qualifications

A high school education or GED. Six months or more of janitorial similar or related experience. Must process and maintain a DL. Position can be physically demanding. Individual may be in constant moving such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting.

• Perform general maintenance duties will include moving furniture, boxes, etc., setting up for and/ or working special events, building checks over holidays when buildings are unoccupied, and on call duty. Will perform routine preventative maintenance (greasing equipment, oiling motors, changing belts, changing air filters, changing light bulbs, etc.).
• Manage, track, and maintain fleet and non-fleet usage and maintenance hours logs.
• Delivers campus mail/supplies within one business day.
• Inspects and exercises normal protective/maintenance care of equipment and materials.
• Maintains a good relationship and communication with college employees, students, and outside contacts.
• Maintains confidentiality of incoming and outgoing mail; possesses honesty and integrity; loyal to coworkers and college.
• Punctual, absences and tardiness reported in timely manner.
• Works effectively and assists others in the department.
• Attends meetings as required.
