Accounts Payable Specialist | Finance Department
Location: City of Lake Alfred, FL
Job Type: Full-Time | In-Office | Non-Exempt
About the Role:
Join our Finance team as an Accounts Payable Clerk, where you’ll play a vital role in processing invoices, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the City's daily accounting operations. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in accounts payable and general accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive, verify, and process vendor invoices and payment requests
Match purchase orders, receipts, and invoices to ensure accuracy
Prepare payments via check, ACH, and wire transfer
Maintain and reconcile accounts payable ledgers
Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve discrepancies
Assist with month-end closings and year-end reporting
Support audits, compliance efforts, and internal controls
Prepare daily deposits and maintain organized records
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred
Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounts payable or a related role
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
Additional Requirements:
Must maintain a home telephone number
May be designated as mission-critical
Work Environment:
This is a sedentary role with occasional walking and light lifting (up to 25 lbs). The position requires routine computer use and interaction with vendors and city departments in a professional setting.
