Job summary

The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga, TN is hiring an Accounting Associate – Accounts Payable to support the Finance & Administration Director. You will process invoices, verify vendors, and keep accurate payment records for a nonprofit organization with a rich railroading heritage.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in accounting, GAAP knowledge, and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of accounting experience.
• Understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Gathers purchase orders, charge slips, sales tickets, and prepares payments.
• Maintains all payment or other transaction records, and files documents.
• Reconciles processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
• Verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts.
• Assist with preparing documentation for audits and reporting.
• Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports and recording entries.
• Record and reconcile daily financial transactions (sales, donations, grants, etc.).
• Receive and verify expense reports from personnel.
• Maintains accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
• Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
• Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Adheres to company policies and procedures at all times.
• Works effectively across teams, as needed, to collaborate and deliver on operational goals.
• Works evenings and weekends for events or campaigns as needed.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance, including working overtime as needed.
• Works cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, guests, and vendors.
• Performs any other tasks assigned by leaders.
