Job summary

TEGNA is seeking a detail-oriented AP Specialist for the Accounts Payable team located at WTHR in Indianapolis. You will manage supplier maintenance, invoice processing, and AP payment requests while delivering quality customer service to suppliers and business units.

You will coordinate invoice flow in Oracle, perform accuracy checks, and contribute to process improvements in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• 1–2 years accounts payable experience in automated environments.
• Experience in a shared services model is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.
• Proactive in identifying process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate flow of invoices in Oracle across assigned sites daily.
• Perform final invoice checks for accuracy.
• Maintain supplier records and create new suppliers as needed.
• Respond to inquiries from sites and suppliers regarding payables.
• Process payables and supplier research tasks (W-9s, banking info, statements).
• Handle special projects and routine AP tasks as required.

We are looking for a detail-oriented AP Specialist with strong problem solving and analytical skills for our Accounts Payable department located at WTHR in Indianapolis, to support TEGNA business units with supplier maintenance, invoice processing and other AP payment requests. The AP Specialist will also provide quality customer service to suppliers, business units, and customers.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate responses and quality customer service while maintaining strong working relationships with suppliers, customers, and sites.
• Coordinate flow of invoices in Oracle by working through various queues for assigned sites daily.
• Perform final check of all invoices to ensure invoice accuracy.
• Perform accurate supplier maintenance by creating new suppliers and maintaining existing suppliers.
• Specialized work that could include special handling, processing returned checks, and various supplier maintenance projects.
• Respond to site & supplier inquiries regarding payables.
• Address email inquiries from NSSC AP mailbox and 1-800 telephone line.
• Conduct payables and supplier research (Examples: obtain W-9s, audit supplier statements, validate banking information, process voids or cancellations, etc).
• Process records in AppZen daily to resolve issues preventing the flow and routing of invoices for payment.
• Perform other duties as required including special projects.

Requirements

• High school degree/GED is required.
• 1-2 years of accounts payable experience in an automated environment preferred.
• Shared service experience preferred.
• Good knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.
• Desire, ability and curiosity to investigate and recommend improvements to processes, procedures, and technology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Experience in the Oracle Cloud environment is preferred but not required.
• Proven attention to detail, good organizational and prioritizing skills and ability to multi-task and work in a rapidly expanding and changing environment.
• Ability to be self-motivated and proactive.
• Collaborative approach and experience working well with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written); strong interpersonal skills.
