Job summary

Cullum Mechanical is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead and optimize our payable processes across multiple business units in South Carolina. The role emphasizes accurate payments, strong vendor relationships, and collaboration with project managers and operations leaders.

You will oversee monthly close activities, maintain internal controls, and drive process improvements to scale our construction and service operations efficiently.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounts payable experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and AP best practices.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
• Provide training and support to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• Foster a customer-service mindset when supporting internal and external stakeholders.
• Oversee full-cycle accounts payable processing for multiple business units and divisions.
• Ensure invoices are coded, approved, and processed accurately and timely.
• Manage weekly check runs, ACH payments, wire transfers, and credit card reconciliations.
• Monitor AP aging and resolve outstanding issues.
• Maintain strong vendor relationships and respond to inquiries professionally.
• Oversee vendor setup, W-9 collection, and compliance documentation.
• Review invoice coding to ensure accurate allocation of project costs.
• Coordinate with project managers and operations teams on invoice approvals and disputed charges.
• Monitor subcontractor and supplier payments.
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Reconcile AP-related general ledger accounts.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare AP reports, cash requirements forecasts, and management reporting.
• Support external audits and provide requested documentation.
• Evaluate and improve AP workflows and automation opportunities.
• Recommend enhancements and best practices.
• Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and finance.
