JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Accounts Payable Clerk

Department/Division: Finance

Salary: $14-$16/Hour

Status: Regular Full-time

Supervisor: Treasurer

Subordinates: None

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs professional accounting work; related to the preparation, maintenance of enterprise accounting under governmental accounting principles and has responsibility for complex technical accounts maintenance programs. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information and performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information, calculations and prepares necessary correcting entries; examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with agreements, contracts and applicable federal/ tribal regulations.
  • Prepares and maintains enterprise control, subsidiary accounting records involving a variety of transactions and accounts; prepares trial balance and financial reports.
  • Prepares check requests for disbursement of various departments for the tribe.
  • Maintains liaison with accounting staff, vendors, and other employees to correct errors and ensure the efficient and effective accounts payable processing.
  • Prepares and maintains daily logs for tracking documents within the accounting department.
  • Typing correspondence and accounts payable as required; generates reports as required.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures and mails checks.
  • Refer to the budgets for account classification.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the principle and practices generally accepted governmental accounting principles, including financial statement preparation, methods of financial reporting and budgeting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • < > School Diploma or Equivalent plus two years accounting or bookkeeping experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.< >< > preference will apply.
