Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking an accounting professional to join our Finance team. The role handles invoice audits, payment processing, and vendor inquiries, ensuring compliance with county procedures and accurate 1099 records.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, at least 3 years of accounting experience, and strong communication and organizational skills. This is a full-time position with competitive hourly pay and opportunities to contribute to emergency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent substitutions as described.
  • 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting and other finance-related areas.

Responsibilities

  • Audits invoices for payment.
  • Verifies invoice matches the purchase order and approves amounts.
  • Ensures departments comply with county procedures.
  • Processes payments for county departments and refunds.
  • Assists vendors and departments with invoice questions.
  • Processes payroll deductions to vendors.
  • Works with Purchasing on billing issues.
  • Runs weekly check runs and transfers check files for the Treasurer’s Office.
  • Maintains vendor records for 1099 purposes.
  • Participates in emergency management duties during disasters.

Responsibilities
  • Audits invoices for payment
  • Verifies invoice matches the items on the purchase order, amounts agree to the purchase order and/or contract or bid items
  • Ensures the departments are in compliance with county procedures
  • Processes payments for all county departments, Fee Officer Departments and refunds
  • Assists vendors and county departments with questions concerning invoices
  • Processes payroll deductions to vendors
  • Works with Purchasing on billing issues with vendors
  • Processes various weekly check runs and transfers check files to the Treasurer’s Office for the printing of checks
  • Runs reports for distribution to various departments concerning check runs
  • Maintain vendor records for 1099 purposes
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (Associates Degree and 3 years relevant experience in addition to the 3 years required experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree)
  • 3 years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge of accounting and other finance-related areas
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to deal with people effectively and professionally
  • Organizational skills and self-motivated to follow through independently on assigned projects
Salary Range
  • STARTING SALARY RANGE: $29.09 - $36.37 hourly based on qualifications
