Job summary

Cain Watters & Associates is seeking an Accounting Trainer to lead initial training of client usage of our accounting software and to onboard new associates to the firm’s accounting processes. This full‑time position reports to the Accounting Manager and supports tenured staff as needed.

The role emphasizes accuracy, recordkeeping, and adherence to GAAP in a growing CPA firm that serves financial planning clients nationwide. Remote work is possible with management approval.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in accounting required.
  • Multi-client CPA firm experience required.
  • QuickBooks and Xero experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Act as a team player and demonstrate a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Train new clients on accounting software and CWA processes.
  • Train new associates on internal procedures including general ledger and bank reconciliation.
  • Assist existing associates as needed.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports for clients.
  • Set up client accounts and record entries in general ledger.
  • Maintain accurate financial records using current technologies.

Job description

Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Trainer is responsible for the initial training of client’s usage of accounting software and/or internal training of new associates joining the CWA accounting team as well as assist tenured associates when needed.

Essential Functions
  1. Train new clients on accounting software and CWA accounting processes
  2. Train new associates on all internal procedures to include general ledger and bank reconciliation, payroll integration, preparation of a balance sheet & income statement for a growing CPA firm specializing in financial planning to national clientele
  3. Assist existing associates when needed
  4. Exercise discretion and authority in the preparation of accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports, to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards defined within the department
  5. Establish records of accounts and input entries into proper accounts
  6. Document and ensure proper keeping of financial records, making use of current technologies
Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Initial setup of a client’s account to include general ledger beginning balances
  2. Work independently on monthly and quarterly compilations including reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts; assess general ledger for accuracy
  3. Exercise discretion and authority in the preparation of after the fact payroll summaries and record journal entries
  4. Record journal entries to reconcile balance sheet accounts to supporting documents
  5. Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations in the preparation of year end Forms 1096 & 1099
  6. Work independently with clients as needed to facilitate completion of financial statements
  7. Backup for Software Specialist when necessary
  8. Visit with client during annual consultation to develop accounting/client relationship

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing may be required.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed based on management’s approval. The ability to work remotely is allowed based on management’s approval.

Compensation

Minimum: $75,000.00 - Maximum: $90,000.00 USD
