Job description

Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Accounting Manager is responsible for reviewing the accounting work prepared by staff members including bank reconciliation, general ledger, balance sheet and income statements for a growing CPA firm specializing in financial planning for national clientele. The Accounting Manager also is responsible for supervising a team of accountants in their day‑to‑day work activities.

Essential Functions
  1. Review accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports, to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards defined within the department, reporting any discrepancies to the team member for correction
  2. Review records of accounts and confirm entries into proper accounts
  3. Document and ensure proper keeping of financial records, making use of current technologies
  4. Manage department goals of their team
Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Review monthly and quarterly accounting work including reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts; verify general ledger for accuracy
  2. Review after the fact payroll summaries and journal entries
  3. Review journal entries to reconcile balance sheet accounts to support documents
  4. Oversee preparation of year end Forms 1096 & 1099
  5. Client contact as needed to facilitate completion of financial statements
  6. Responsible for a team of accountants, answer questions, give feedback and day‑to‑day managing of the team, ensuring timely delivery to our clients
  7. Adhere to review timeliness guidelines
  8. Provide weekly updates to the Accounting Director regarding overall team performance
  9. Manage time‑off requests for team according to the Associates’ performance and business needs
  10. Perform monthly and quarterly financial statements including reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts; verify general ledger for accuracy
  11. Record journal entries to reconcile balance sheet accounts to support documents
  12. Preparation of year end Forms 1096 & 1099
  13. Visit with client during annual consultation to develop accounting/client relationship

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting field required

  • Supervisory experience leading or managing teams preferred
  • QuickBooks and Xero Software experience preferred
  • Proficiency in both Microsoft Word and Excel

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing may be required.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed based on management’s approval. An in‑office presence may be required for training. This is a primarily remote role, with an in‑office presence once a month or as business need dictates. The ability to work remotely is allowed based on management’s approval.

Compensation

Minimum: $90,000.00 - Maximum: $115,000.00 USD
