Job description

Position: Accounting Assistant / Accounting Technician

Student Accounting Office – responsible for managing tuition and fee collection, accounts reconciliation, student billing, and related customer service.

Primary Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct the accounts reconciliation process on a monthly and yearly basis, including running reports, reviewing and analyzing data, preparing spreadsheets, drafting journal entries and cash management transfers, and ensuring accounts receivable are cleared accurately. The role also assists in maintaining policies, analyzing year-end closing, and resolving billing issues for students.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Run and analyze financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, journal entries, and cash management transfers.
  • Maintain and update internal policies and procedures related to student billing.
  • Assist students in resolving billing issues and explaining account statements.
  • Perform reconciliation of accounts receivable for year‑end closing.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payment processing and issuing refunds.
  • Coordinate with related departments to resolve student inquiries.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Banner Finance system or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with accounting or collections.
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile accounting transactions.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle flexible schedules and high‑pressure environments.
Minimum Education/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent and at least one year of accounting work experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
