Our client is a high-growth, pre-IPO AI technology company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, founded by experienced technology leaders and operating at the forefront of advanced technology and innovation.
We are seeking an Accounting Systems Manager to join the organization during a significant period of growth. This role will sit at the intersection of accounting, financial systems, software development, automation, and data, partnering closely with Finance and Controllership to develop scalable solutions that support the company’s continued expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance accounting system functionality using Python, ORM frameworks, data models, views, and XML across areas including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, revenue recognition, cost accounting, tax, and financial close.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, to accelerate development while maintaining high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and production readiness.
- Partner with Finance and Controllership to translate accounting requirements into functional specifications, system workflows, and scalable technical solutions.
- Develop and maintain processes supporting costing, overhead allocations, inventory valuation, reconciliations, COGS, and financial reporting.
- Use SQL and automated testing to validate accounting calculations, investigate discrepancies, and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Build reporting and reconciliation capabilities that connect financial systems data to management reporting and financial statements.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting and finance processes through technology and workflow improvements.
- Document system architecture, accounting logic, workflows, and functionality to support transparency and collaboration between technical and finance teams.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience developing or customizing ERP, financial, or accounting systems using Python, ORM frameworks, models, views, and XML.
- Experience supporting accounting, inventory, manufacturing, or financial systems is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to review, test, debug, and refine AI-generated code.
- Strong SQL skills for data validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and financial systems analysis.
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including General Ledger, AP/AR, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Practical experience with cost accounting, including standard and actual costing, overhead allocation, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and COGS.
- Ability to translate complex or ambiguous business requirements into well-defined functional specifications and reliable production systems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across Accounting, Finance, Controllership, and Engineering.
