Job summary

Western Home Communities in the United States is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our Finance team. This full-time, in-person role offers a diverse workload and a chance to contribute to our financial operations.

The ideal candidate will have an accounting degree (Assoc. or BA) or equivalent experience, GAAP knowledge, nonprofit accounting preferred, and strong Excel and Workday skills. You will handle journal entries, reconciliations, reporting, and cross‑department collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • GAAP knowledge; nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, balancing general ledger accounts, reconciling cash and bank accounts, and analyzing financial statements.
  • Proficiency with Excel and accounting software.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries while ensuring transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance general ledger accounts to maintain accurate records.
  • Review financial statements, balance sheets, and schedules to identify discrepancies.
  • Perform cash transactions and reconciliations with strong internal controls.
  • Review Accounts Payable invoices for proper general ledger coding and expenses.
  • Assist with monthly reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.
  • Utilize Workday and other accounting software to process transactions.
  • Collaborate with Finance and other departments to meet deadlines.

## Accounting SpecialistApply: Corporate HQ: Full time: Posted 6 Days Ago: JR100266**Western Home Communities is expanding our Accounting Department and is excited to add an Accounting Specialist to our growing Finance team.** This is a full-time, in-person position that offers a diverse workload and the opportunity to play an important role in our organization's financial operations. We're looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, managing multiple priorities, and taking ownership of their work. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, works well independently, and is committed to producing accurate, high-quality financial information.**What You'll Do:*** Prepare and post month-end journal entries while ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting period.* Reconcile bank accounts and balance general ledger accounts to maintain accurate financial records.* Review and analyze financial statements, balance sheet accounts, and supporting schedules to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.* Perform cash transactions and reconciliations while maintaining strong internal controls.* Review Accounts Payable invoices for accurate general ledger coding and ensure expenses are assigned to the appropriate accounts.* Assist with monthly financial reporting, annual audit preparation, cost reports, and budgeting activities.* Analyze financial activity, research variances, and recommend solutions to resolve discrepancies.* Utilize Workday and other accounting software to process cash, general ledger, and financial transactions.* Successfully manage multiple priorities and a diverse workload while consistently meeting deadlines.* Work independently with strong initiative while collaborating effectively with the Finance team and other departments.**Requirements:*** **Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting**, Finance, or a related field **or** 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge and skills.* Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); nonprofit accounting experience preferred.* Experience preparing journal entries, balancing general ledger accounts, reconciling cash and bank accounts, and analyzing financial statements.* Experience reviewing general ledger coding and ensuring the accuracy of Accounts Payable transactions.* Ability to analyze accounting data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues through effective problem-solving.* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize work, and adapt to changing business needs.* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality.* Workday experience preferred, but not required.* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees, vendors, and leadership.**Benefits:*** Continuing Education Opportunities* Tuition and Student Loan reimbursement* (Full-time) Health, Dental, and Vision insurance* Flexible PTO* 401k Match* Wellness Reimbursement* Employee Assistance Program* And much more!*If you, or someone you know, would be a good fit for this opportunity within Western Home Communities- we would love to talk!*Western Home Communities is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC).
