Job summary

University of California, Irvine is seeking a finance professional to help process accounting documents and reconcile ledgers in support of DCE operations.

You will assist with budget forecasts, monitor financial transactions, and ensure compliance with GAAP and university policies while maintaining data in Kuali and QuickBooks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 4-6 years progressive experience in accounting and budgeting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting policies and GAAP.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Process an array of accounting documents in support of DCE’s operations.
  • Reconcile monthly ledgers and assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.
  • Review financial transactions for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Assist with developing and analyzing annual/quarterly budget forecasts.
  • Enter and maintain data in UC Irvine’s central accounting system (Kuali Financial System) and QuickBooks.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation including various budget components and reporting.

Your Role on the Team

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the incumbent is responsible for processing an array of accounting documents in support of DCE’s operations. Reconciles monthly ledgers. Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal closing processes ensuring compliance with departmental and university policies and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Reviews financial transactions to ensure proper accounting of accounts receivable and accounts payable from an array of sources and for a wide range of uses. Assists with developing and analyzing DCE’s annual and quarterly budget forecasts. Enters and maintains data in UC Irvine’s central accounting system (Kuali Financial System) DCE’s financial management system (QuickBooks). Assists with annual budget preparation including F1, F2, F3 and uses data to identify trends, prepare reports, and projects, revenue and expenses.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of UCI and DCE financial processes, policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with all Continuing Education and campus department staff & faculty, General Accounting, University Advancement, the Budget Office, etc.
  • Demonstrated skill in budget preparation and trend analysis
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to professional and support staff.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in financial analysis and projections and planning and administration of multi-million dollar budgets from multiple funding sources with monthly fluctuations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 4-6 years in Progressive experience in accounting and budgeting
