Job summary

SpyGlass Pharma is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its growing Finance & Accounting team in Irvine. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you will manage payroll, GL, A/P and A/R, month-end close, and budget oversight in a pre-revenue, R&D-focused setting.

This hands-on role requires strong accounting discipline and adaptability. You will refine processes, lead close cycles, ensure internal controls, support budgeting and financial modeling, and prepare reports for investors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• 5–8+ years of accounting experience, ideally in startups, biotech, or life sciences.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, payroll processing, and pre‑revenue financial reporting.
• Experience with venture-backed startups, investor reporting, and fund tracking is a plus.
• Public company experience related to audits, SOX compliance and internal controls preferred.
• Hands‑on experience with AP, AR, payroll, tax compliance, and financial statement preparation.
• Familiarity with stock-based compensation and equity accounting.
• Proficiency with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or other accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast‑moving environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive and adaptable mindset.

Responsibilities

• Oversee payroll administration, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with tax regulations, and benefits accounting.
• Oversee travel & entertainment program administration including expense reporting, approval, and reimbursement.
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management, ensuring efficient vendor payments and expense tracking.
• Maintain and refine internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures for compliance and scalability.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling, partnering with the VP of Finance.
• Prepare financial reports and investor updates, supporting fundraising and equity-related accounting.
• Support audit and tax compliance, including coordination with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Implement and optimize financial systems and automation tools to improve efficiency.
