Job summary

SpyGlass Pharma in the United States is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead core accounting functions in a fast-paced, pre-revenue R&D environment. You will oversee payroll, GL, AP/AR, month-end close, and budgeting while refining financial processes to scale the business.

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you’ll partner with the VP of Finance, support audits and investor updates, and help implement automation tools to improve efficiency across the finance function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 5-8+ years accounting experience, ideally in startups or biotech.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and experience with audits and SOX.
  • Experience with venture-backed startups, investor reporting, and fund tracking is a plus.
  • Hands-on with AP, AR, payroll, tax compliance, and financial statement prep.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll administration, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Oversee travel & entertainment program administration including expense reporting and reimbursement.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, reconciliations, and financial statement prep.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes with journal entries and accruals.
  • Oversee AP/AR and cash management; ensure vendor payments and expense tracking.
  • Maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance and scalability.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling with VP of Finance.
  • Prepare financial reports and investor updates to support fundraising.

Summary:


We are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our growing Finance & Accounting team at SpyGlass Pharma. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, this role will be responsible for managing core accounting functions, including payroll, general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, month-end close, and budget oversight. As SpyGlass scales, this position will play a key role in refining financial processes to support growth. This is a high-impact, hands-on role in a pre-revenue, R&D-focused environment, ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced startups and is excited about working in a dynamic, evolving finance function.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Oversee payroll administration, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with tax regulations, and benefits accounting.

  • Oversee and manage travel & entertainment program administration including employee expense reporting, approval, and reimbursement.

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting.

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management, ensuring efficient processes for vendor payments and expense tracking.

  • Maintain and refine internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and scalability.

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling, partnering closely with the VP of Finance.

  • Prepare financial reports and investor updates, supporting fundraising and equity-related accounting.

  • Support audit and tax compliance, including coordination with external auditors and tax advisors.

  • Implement and optimize financial systems and automation tools to improve efficiency.


Qualifications Required For Position:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.

  • 5-8+ years of accounting experience, ideally in startups, biotech, or life sciences.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, payroll processing, and pre-revenue financial reporting.

  • Experience with venture-backed startups, investor reporting, and fund tracking is a plus.

  • Public company experience related to supporting audits, SOX compliance and internal controls preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with AP, AR, payroll, tax compliance, and financial statement preparation.

  • Familiarity with stock-based compensation and equity accounting.

  • Proficiency with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or other accounting software.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive and adaptable mindset.
