Job description

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

Compensation: $160K–$210K base + equity (RSUs)

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a highly profitable, rapidly growing company in San Francisco to identify an Accounting Manager to join its expanding Accounting organization as it prepares for an anticipated IPO.

The company is experiencing significant growth and investing in its accounting infrastructure, systems, and processes to support its next phase of expansion and transition to a publicly traded organization.

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will take broad ownership of operational accounting, including the multi-entity close, general ledger, and non-revenue accounting functions. This individual will also lead a small accounting team, drive process improvements, and partner closely with Finance leadership on audit readiness and IPO preparation initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership, building scalable processes, and developing a team while gaining meaningful exposure to SEC reporting and technical accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities, including consolidations and intercompany accounting
  • Oversee general ledger and operational accounting activities, including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, leases, payroll, and operating expenses
  • Support financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and detailed flux and variance analysis
  • Oversee equity accounting activities, including stock-based compensation and related calculations
  • Partner with Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting leadership on financial statement disclosures, reporting requirements, and IPO readiness initiatives
  • Lead external audit activities across assigned accounting areas, ensuring accurate documentation and audit-ready processes
  • Manage and develop a team of two accounting professionals, with opportunities to expand the team as the company grows
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance and business leadership to resolve accounting matters and communicate financial results
  • Identify opportunities to streamline the close, strengthen internal controls, and improve accounting processes through automation, systems enhancements, and emerging technologies
  • Help establish scalable accounting policies, procedures, and reporting capabilities to support continued growth

Qualifications

Required

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of the month-end close and general ledger
  • Prior accounting experience within a publicly traded company environment
  • Strong operational accounting background with experience across multiple entities, consolidations, and intercompany transactions
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and ability to independently evaluate accounting matters
  • Experience supporting external audits and maintaining accurate, audit-ready documentation
  • Previous experience managing, mentoring, or developing accounting professionals
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Experience leveraging technology, automation, or AI-enabled tools to improve accounting processes

Preferred

  • Prior public accounting experience
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems
  • Exposure to SEC reporting, technical accounting, or IPO readiness initiatives
  • Experience within a high-growth or rapidly scaling organization

Why This Opportunity

  • Join a highly profitable, rapidly growing company preparing for an anticipated IPO

  • Take broad ownership of operational accounting while gaining hands-on exposure to SEC reporting and technical accounting
  • Work directly with experienced Accounting and Finance leadership on high-impact initiatives
  • Lead and develop an existing accounting team, with opportunities for expanded leadership responsibility as the company scales
  • Help modernize accounting processes, systems, internal controls, and close automation
  • Gain valuable pre-IPO experience without needing to have previously owned SEC reporting or complex technical accounting
  • Join a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with significant opportunities for professional growth
