Qualifications

  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.

  • Strong Excel skills and accounting systems familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day accounting operations and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Manage general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Prepare financial reports and assist with budget-to-actual reporting and financial analysis.
  • Support nonprofit and grant accounting, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll-related accounting, and other financial processes as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting documentation, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assist with audit preparation and respond to financial information requests.
  • Partner with organizational leadership and program staff to provide accurate financial information and resolve accounting questions.
  • Identify and address accounting discrepancies, process gaps, and other financial priorities during the contract period.
  • Support additional accounting and finance projects as needed.

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Accounting Manager for a mission-driven nonprofit organization located in Northeast Portland, Oregon. This is a 3-4 month contract opportunity working approximately 32 hours per week and offering $35-$40 per hour, depending on experience. Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on accounting professional who can step in quickly and provide reliable support across the organization’s accounting and financial operations. The organization prefers someone who can work onsite, although some hybrid flexibility may be considered for the right candidate.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Accounting Manager will play an important role in maintaining accurate and timely financial operations during the contract period. This individual will support day-to-day accounting, general ledger activity, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, grant accounting, and other financial priorities. The ideal candidate brings a strong nonprofit accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to quickly become familiar with an organization’s existing accounting processes and systems. Experience with MIP Abila is a strong plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support day-to-day accounting operations and maintain accurate and complete financial records.
  • Manage general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Prepare financial reports and assist with budget-to-actual reporting and financial analysis.
  • Support nonprofit and grant accounting, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll-related accounting, and other financial processes as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Several years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with nonprofit fund accounting, grant accounting, restricted funding, and budgeting preferred.
  • Experience with MIP Abila is a strong plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with accounting and financial systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn existing processes, work independently, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Collaborative communication style and ability to work effectively with finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Ability to work onsite in Northeast Portland preferred; some hybrid flexibility may be considered.
COMPENSATION, SCHEDULE & LOCATION

This is a 3-4 month contract opportunity working approximately 32 hours per week and paying $35-$40 per hour, depending on experience. The position is based in Northeast Portland, Oregon. The organization strongly prefers someone who can work onsite and be an active presence with the team; however, some hybrid flexibility may be considered for the right candidate.
