Qualifications

  • Able to work independently in a lean, fast-paced environment with limited on-site support
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; not required with hands-on experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end monthly close process in QuickBooks Online with journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and schedules for CFO and ownership
  • Oversee invoicing, collections, and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments
  • Manage vendor invoicing, payment processing, and AP aging
  • Coordinate payroll processing and related accounting entries with external providers
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts and monitor cash position
  • Maintain internal controls and accounting policies for audit readiness
  • Support budget vs. actual reporting and ad-hoc financial analysis for the CFO
  • Collaborate with portfolio company operations to ensure financial data reflects day-to-day activity
  • Provide accounting support to other Laurel Mountain Partners portfolio companies as capacity allows

Laurel Mountain Partners is an independent sponsor investment firm that acquires and builds platforms in the environmental services sectors. We partner with well-established, founder-led businesses and provide the capital, systems, and leadership needed to help them grow. This role supports one of our portfolio companies, a well established industrial services business in the greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania region, with the opportunity to take on additional portfolio company work as our platform expands through acquisition.

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to own the monthly close cycle and day to day accounting for one of our portfolio companies, with the opportunity to support additional portfolio companies as our platform grows. Reporting to Laurel Mountain Partners' Chief Financial Officer, this role is responsible for the core accounting function, including monthly close, financial reporting, billing, payroll coordination, and internal controls, all within QuickBooks Online. The ideal candidate has hands on experience managing a monthly close process, is comfortable working independently in a lean finance environment, and is excited to help build the accounting infrastructure of a growing, acquisitive platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monthly Close Ownership: Lead the end to end monthly close process in QuickBooks Online, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals, to produce timely and accurate financial statements
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review by the CFO and ownership
  • Billing & Revenue Management: Oversee customer invoicing, collections, and accounts receivable to ensure accuracy and timely payments
  • Accounts Payable Management: Manage vendor invoicing, payment processing, and accounts payable aging
  • Payroll Coordination: Coordinate payroll processing and related accounting entries in partnership with outside payroll providers
  • Cash & Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank and credit card accounts and monitor cash position
  • Internal Controls: Maintain and follow internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets and support audit readiness
  • Budget & Reporting Support: Support the CFO with budget to actual reporting and ad hoc financial analysis
  • Operational Partnership: Partner with portfolio company operations leadership to ensure financial data accurately reflects day to day activity
  • Cross Portfolio Support: Assist with accounting tasks at other Laurel Mountain Partners portfolio companies as capacity allows and the platform grows
Qualifications & Experience
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally including full ownership of a monthly close cycle
  • Hands on experience with QuickBooks Online required
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
  • Comfortable working independently in a lean, fast paced environment with limited on site accounting support
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet close deadlines
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; not required with sufficient hands on experience
