About the Opportunity
The Corporate Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day accounting operations for the corporate accounting function and serve as a key member of the corporate finance and accounting team.
This position will lead a small team while remaining hands-on with the monthly close, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, corporate expenses, allocations, and balance sheet activity.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in corporate accounting and financial reporting, combined with experience leading accounting professionals in a complex, multi-entity environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day corporate accounting operations, including monthly close, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, reclasses, and financial reporting.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 1–3 accounting professionals.
- Establish priorities and expectations while providing ongoing coaching and professional development.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and other accounting deliverables.
- Oversee accounting activity for corporate cost centers, balance sheet accounts, allocations, and intercompany transactions.
- Prepare and/or review monthly financial statements and variance analysis.
- Analyze account activity and investigate unusual or complex balances and variances.
- Oversee corporate accounts payable processes, including invoice coding, approvals, and payment runs.
- Assist with consolidated financial reporting and preparation of supporting schedules.
- Partner with Payroll, Human Resources, Treasury, Operations, and other internal departments to ensure accurate recording and allocation of corporate expenses.
- Support lender compliance reporting, external audits, tax compliance, and other corporate reporting requirements.
- Maintain appropriate accounting controls and support internal and external audit requests.
- Identify and implement process improvements designed to increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve reporting accuracy.
- Participate in accounting system implementations, process enhancements, and other special projects as needed.
Ideal Background
The successful candidate will typically have experience in one or more of the following environments:
- Corporate accounting
- Hospitality
- Asset management
- Multi-entity organizations
- Public accounting with subsequent industry experience
- Other complex, high-volume accounting environments
Experience managing or supervising accounting professionals is strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA highly preferred.
- Approximately 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience with corporate accounting and financial close processes.
- Prior supervisory or management experience within an accounting function.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and corporate accounting principles.
- Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, intercompany accounting, and financial reporting.
- Experience working within a multi-entity or complex organizational structure preferred.
- Experience with an ERP/accounting platform such as Yardi, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or a comparable system.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to review accounting activity at both a detailed and high level.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.
