Success Matcher Recruitment is assisting a respected multi-state law firm in Kansas City that seeks an Accounting Manager to run the firm’s accounting operations in a hybrid setting.

You will oversee all accounting functions, lead a small team, manage multi-state tax filings, trust and audit preparations, and provide strategic reporting to the COO and leadership.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of hands-on supervisory or management experience in accounting, ideally within professional services.
• Strong GAAP knowledge, especially cash basis accounting structures.
• Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization.
• Willingness to be hands-on while guiding a team and stepping in for AR/AP as needed.

Responsibilities

Accounting Manager: Lead Firm-Wide Financial Operations (Hybrid)

Our client is a highly respected, 100+-year-old multi-state law firm built on institutional stability and an agile, modern approach to business. With 8 offices across the Midwest, a rapidly expanding team, and an unwavering commitment to a collaborative, human-centric culture, we are seeking an Accounting Manager to run our firm-wide accounting operations.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in Kansas City, this is not a siloed, heads-down bookkeeping role. You will have real ownership from day one, running financial operations, leading a close-knit team, and making decisions that directly impact the firm’s bottom line.

What You’ll Do

Financial Operations: Oversee all firm-wide accounting functions, including financial statement preparation, month-end and year-end close, journal entries, and complex reconciliations.

Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and technically coach a dedicated 2.5-person accounting team, cultivating a low-politics, highly supportive work environment.

Multi-State Tax & Compliance: Direct multi-state tax filings (1096/1099s, state use tax, business registrations) and attorney licensing/dues administration across 7 states.

Trust & Audit Management: Take ownership of trust accounts and coordinate comprehensive internal and client-facing audit preparations with external accountants.

Leadership Partner: Serve as a strategic accounting resource for attorneys across all 8 offices and produce vital ad-hoc reporting for the COO and executive leadership.

Who You Are

Experienced Supervisor: 2–5 years of hands‑on supervisory or management experience in accounting, ideally within professional services (law firms are a major plus; finance or insurance environments are highly acceptable).

Technical Expert: Highly proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office. You possess strong GAAP knowledge, specifically applied to cash basis or modified cash basis accounting structures.

A Resilient Communicator: You are comfortable communicating up and down the organization. You thrive in a direct, transparent communication culture and handle constructive feedback with professionalism and ease.

Hands‑on Leader: You enjoy a blend of high‑level oversight and tactical execution, willing to step in as an operational backup on AR/AP processes when needed.
